What is The Send?
The Send is a global organisation that exists to ignite and mobilise a generation into mission fields at home and across the nations.
3.4 billion people have never heard the name of Jesus. Thousands of schools and hundreds of universities lack a vibrant expression of Jesus. Countless children grow up without the stability of family, while workplaces and communities stand ready for the transformative power of the gospel.
The Send exists to ignite and mobilise a generation into mission fields at home and across the nations.
Action can be our only response.
BST is proudly partnering with the work of The Send in Scotland and Ireland and we have developed a tailored programme for anyone wishing to take a step towards theological study.
The Programme
Belfast School of Theology has over 80 years’ experience in preparing people for ministry and mission and is delighted to be partnering with The Send Ireland and Scotland in equipping young people to serve God.
We offer The Send participants a unique learning opportunity. You will study three university modules. Passing these modules will give you university module credits which can be used towards a degree. Successfully completing these modules would also enable you to apply to join our longer undergraduate courses (see later).Â

Thinking Theologically:
In the autumn you will learn more about how to think theologically
Engaging the World:
In the spring you will learn more about the biblical story and the biblical basis for mission
Ministry Formation and Practice:
Through the whole year you will learn more about calling, vocation, discipleship and service. Part of this module will include a placement where you will put your learning into practice.
Placement
You will work with our Ministry Training Coodinator to agree a placement in an in an area of Christian ministry of interest to you (possible areas include evangelism, church planting, youth work, or other church ministry and mission opportunities).
The placement would take place in both autumn and spring. You would set objectives with your placement supervisor and then reflect upon your placement in the final assessment for the module.
Further Information
About the certificate…
Course Fees & Church Sponsorship
The Send’s opportunity to avail of the bespoke Certificate in Missio Dei special training programme costs £3500 (approximately 50% cheaper than BST’s usual Higher Education Certificate and 70% cheaper than most equivalent courses offered in the mainland UK). Could your church sponsor you?Â
Placements and Travel
Students are expected to support themselves during their placements. In some cases, placement ministries and churches may offer practical support. Students will also have capacity to work part-time, following in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul, who was a tentmaker.Â
Module Accreditation
Modules are accredited by the University of Cumbria. A student completing the Certificate in Missio Dei will have completed approximately 50% of a full year’s academic study at Level 4. Â
Graduation
Students on the programme would graduate Summer 2026.
