What is The Send?

The Send is a global organisation that exists to ignite and mobilise a generation into mission fields at home and across the nations.

3.4 billion people have never heard the name of Jesus. Thousands of schools and hundreds of universities lack a vibrant expression of Jesus. Countless children grow up without the stability of family, while workplaces and communities stand ready for the transformative power of the gospel.

The Send exists to ignite and mobilise a generation into mission fields at home and across the nations.

Action can be our only response.

BST is proudly partnering with the work of The Send in Scotland and Ireland and we have developed a tailored programme for anyone wishing to take a step towards theological study.

Our Tailored 3 Part Programme…

Spend the autumn semester (September – December 2025) studying at BST.  Each student will study three core modules in the following subjects:

Theological Thinking (how to think theologically)
Ministry Formation (growing in love and knowledge of God and developing Christian practice)
Christian Leadership – learning to lead and be part of a team.

Students will receive university module credits which can be used at a later stage towards a degree.
Go and serve in a placement, either in Ireland or Scotland, under the leadership and guidance of a local supervisor as well as BST’s Ministry Coordinator.

EITHER

Bespoke Church Planting and Evangelism Placements

OR

A wide variety of Missional, Church Ministry and Youth Work Placements.

Typically, placements are 3-month assignments (February – April 2026).

Students will have one final dissertation to write, reflecting on their placements as well as their sense of calling for the future.

Module intensive training and dissertation week/s:  May 2026.

Online Module: Engaging the World – study mission through the centuries and what mission looks like today

Further Information

About the certificate…

Course Fees & Church Sponsorship

The Send’s opportunity to avail of the bespoke Certificate in Missio Dei special training programme costs £3500 (approximately 50% cheaper than BST’s usual Higher Education Certificate and 70% cheaper than most equivalent courses offered in the mainland UK).  Could your church sponsor you?

Placements and Travel

Students are expected to support themselves during their placements.  In some cases, placement ministries and churches may offer practical support.  Students will also have capacity to work part-time, following in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul, who was a tentmaker.

Module Accreditation

Modules are accredited by the University of Cumbria.  A student completing the certificate will have completed approximately 50-60% of a full year’s academic study at Level 4.

Graduation

Students on the programme would graduate Summer 2026.

About Us…What an incredible  journey over 80 years

Belfast School of Theology began in 1943 during the bleak days of World War 2, and somewhat courageously Robert and Rosalind McKnight unfurled the pristine and hopeful banner:

Belfast Bible School and Missionary Training Home

The School has certainly walked a long road since then, always seeking to attune collegiate strategy and direction with the Spirit’s leading and discernment for each stage of the journey, whether on the heights immersed in a glorious vista or enduring wearisome footsteps through miry valleys. Successive boards, principals and staff have carried the same beautiful task to train, spiritually equip and mobilise the local and global church for mission and fulfilled spiritual living in Christ.

What a breathtaking journey it has been.

We’ve seen Thousands trained and  now serving the Lord

Former students are impacting the world as Doctors,  lawyers, ministers, Pastors, evangelists, international Christian songwriters, missionaries both overseas and in cross-cultural settings, academics, lecturers, RE teachers, youth workers, politicians, civil servants, business leaders, digital content writers, environmentalists, engineers, agricultural development workers and more. The impact of their studies with is has influenced their careers and life choices, all seeking to bear witness to the reality of Jesus and His Kingdom, wherever the Lord has called them, using whatever talents He has placed in their hands.

This is the Belfast School of Theology’s legacy.

What a mobilisation!

Technology Required for Online Study

Students should have a basic level of IT competence. Students at BST will have access to MS Office applications as well as a very comprehensive selection of books through Perlego and academic journal articles through EBSCO.

Students will require:

Access to broadband connection capable of live-streaming teaching sessions and seminars as well as streaming videos and accessing the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Access to a laptop or computer is strongly recommended for writing and submitting assignments.

Some assignments will require students to present and record a presentation. A smart phone is sufficient for this purpose.
