What validated courses do you offer?

Belfast School of Theology offers a three year BA(Hons) in Theology validated through the University of Cumbria. The College also offers an MA in Theology – Bible and Ministry in the contemporary world, through University of Cumbria and a Graduate Diploma. Our Graduate Diploma course is designed for University Graduates of other subjects who would like training and qualification in Theology. What other courses do you offer?

As well as our validated courses, we have a number of unvalidated classes or one-off events. These are now grouped together as the Catalyst Courses, and they could be anything from an evening class to the Womens Study Fellowship or the Pastoral Care course completed as a stand-alone Module. How much are the tuition fees?

Fee’s vary from course to course, all details on entry requirements and fee costs can be found on each courses page on our website. The website is the most up to date location for fee costs.

Our fees are the same for local and international students, Belfast School of Theology is a charity and we rely on donations to keep our fees low and accessible.

When do the courses start?

The academic year for Degree commences in September, the first teaching week for the MA is in August. Other courses run throughout the year and further details can be found on their page on the website.

What are the term dates?

The academic year at Belfast School of Theology runs from September to May. Each semester is made up of 12 weeks of teaching with breaks for reading week in October, Christmas and Easter. If you are staying in campus accommodation this will be available to you one week before orientation.

As you complete your application our admissions team will give you all the information you need to begin studying here at Belfast School of Theology.

Validated courses each have their entry requirements on their course page. Please read it carefully and if you have any questions then please contact the Admissions Office.

College Courses are designed to make Christian learning available to all, there are no formal academic entrance requirements for our college courses.

Does the college accept alternatives to A Levels for undergraduate courses?

There are alternative progression routes to our validated courses. If you do not have A-levels or equivalent qualifications, prior life, learning and work experience may also be taken into account.

What if I’m a former student and want to come back to study more?

We are glad that you are interested in returning to study here at the School. For former college course students wishing to start a new course, simply submit an application for your intended programme. Students who have previously completed a degree or postgraduate level course and wish to progress their studies should contact the Admissions Office directly for further guidance.

How long does the application process take?

The Admissions process is different depending on your programme of study, this can vary. Make sure you apply before the application deadline to ensure time for your application to be considered.

Degree Level

Once you have filled out the application form we will arrange an interview, check your qualifications and grades for entry and make contact with your references via email. This process can take some time so do apply before the deadline if possible.

Postgraduate Level

Our MA programme has a similar application process to the Degree, but because teaching commences in August the deadline for applications is July.

International Applicants

International students are welcome at Belfast School of Theology, but if you were born outside of the EEC you may require a Visa to study in the UK. Check the deadline for International Applications on the course pages, it is usually 3 months earlier.

Can I visit BST?

Yes, we would be happy for you to visit the campus. Meeting staff and students, having a campus tour and joining in one of our Community Life events may help to give you a feel for what studying as part of Belfast School of Theology would be like. We have regular Open Mornings scheduled throughout the year, please see the Open Days page for details of upcoming events.

How do I get to BST?

Our campus is in the town of Dunmurry, located between the two cities of Belfast and Lisburn. There are public transport options of Bus and Train to Dunmurry and then a short walk to the College.

What accommodation is there available?

The School has self-catered on-campus accommodation for approximately 30 students. All full-time students are welcome to apply to be resident on-campus, however priority would be given to those coming from overseas.

Where does my degree come from?

Belfast School of Theology works with the University of Cumbria to Validate our Degrees. Our BA(Hons) Degree, Graduate Diploma and MA in Theology are awarded by the University of Cumbria. All the teaching, course work and marking is done here in Belfast School of Theology by our teachers and staff.

We also offer a number of ‘college courses’ which are unvalidated. As a small independant college we work hard to provide the highest standards of education provision. Belfast School of Theology is regularly inspected and reported on by QAA.
