10 New Scholarships to be Awarded for our MA in Practical Theology.

Information:

Belfast School of Theology is pleased to announce the establishment of ten new scholarships for students enrolling in the MA in Practical Theology course in September 2025. Each scholarship will cover 50% of the total cost (course fees and enrolment fees) of the two-year MA programme.

Scope

The BST MA scholarship programme is open to those who are ordinarily resident in the UK and Ireland whose primary degree is a 2:1 from a UK or Republic of Ireland university. For a scholarship to be awarded, an applicant will need to have been offered a place on the MA in Practical Theology course for 2025-26 entry.

Ten scholarships are available to be awarded for 2025-26 entry to the MA programme.Scholarships will normally cover 50% of the total cost of the MA in Practical Theology course (enrolment fee and course fee). Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship applicants must:

• Be ordinarily resident in the UK or Ireland throughout their period of study
• Hold a 2:1 degree or above from a recognised UK or Republic of Ireland university
• Give evidence of involvement in Christian ministry
• Demonstrate their reasons for studying practical theology and the impact they anticipate it may have on their ministry
• Provide contact details for two referees (preferably one from a church leader or employer). Referees should not be related to the applicant
• State their reasons for applying for the scholarship and how the remainder of the fees will be paid.
Scholarship Criteria and Conditions
• All information provided must be true and accurate. If any scholarship student is subsequently found to have knowingly provided false information, the scholarship shall be withdrawn and they shall be liable for the full amount of fees due.
• The applicant must be accepted for a place on the MA in Practical Theology course under the normal Admissions process
• Scholarships for successful applicants will provide for 50% of the enrolment fee and course fee for the MA in Practical Theology course
• Applications will be considered and scholarships awarded by the Scholarship Committee
• Scholarship funding will be paid at the rate of 50% of the enrolment fee due before commencement of the course, and then 25% of the course fee in advance in each of the two years of the course.
• Funding for the second year of the course is dependent on passing all modules in the first year.
• Scholarship funding will be paid by the funder directly to BST.
• Those awarded a scholarship are liable for the remaining 50% of the cost of the course.
• Payment of the remaining fees must be made in accordance with normal payment policy for the course.
• Applicants must declare any other funding for the course at the time of application, or if received during their period of study. The BST scholarship for students in receipt ofmore than 50% funding from another source will be reduced accordingly on a pound for pound basis.
• The student will notify the Admissions Officer of any significant change in circumstances, particularly a change in their residence status, during their period of study. Changes in circumstances will be considered by the Scholarship Committeeand any outcome will be notified as soon as possible
Process
• Applications must be completed on the BST MA Scholarship Application Form 2025-26. (Applicants must complete both the BST Masters application form and the scholarship application form.)
• All applications must be received by 12pm (noon) on Friday 8th August 2025
• All references must be received by 12pm (noon) on Monday 11th August 2025
• Applications will be considered by the Scholarship Panel
• All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application as soon as possible
• The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final
Scholarship Committee

 The Scholarship Committee will consist of:

2 members from the BST Academic teaching staff, preferably to include the Programme Lead

1 member from the Finance department

Admissions Officer (secretary)

The quorum shall be 2 members plus the secretary

Complaints
• The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final
• Any complaints regarding the process followed will be dealt with via the Appeals and Complaints Process included in Section 7 of the Recruitment, Selection & Admissions Policy and Procedures for Validated Courses

