Belfast School Of Theology

Campus Tour

A Great Campus

with a bright future…

Belfast School of Theology is situated in the leafy suburb of Dunmurry, midway between the city centres of Belfast and Lisburn. The campus is approached via a bridge over a small river which borders two sides of the area. The six buildings form a semi-circle around the car park and overlook the fields and trees of the Lagan Valley, extending towards Lady Dickson Park. This truly serene oasis is only a 10-minute walk from the village, where there is a supermarket, hotel, shops, coffee shops and cafes, banks, primary and secondary schools, and train and bus routes offering regular services to the cities and beyond.

The main building, Glenburn House, is a Grade 2 listed building as it is one of the original “Linen Houses of the Lagan Valley” dating back to 1861. When the school moved to the site in 1983, the building was sympathetically restored. The beautifully corniced ceilings, grand staircase, and large fireplaces were preserved while the rest of the building was adapted to meet the needs of a modern educational institution. Glenburn House is the hub of the campus, housing the reception, offices, meeting rooms, and two classrooms.

Next to Glenburn House is the library. With a reading room added in 2012, the library has over 25,000 catalogued books, academic journals, and articles. The catalogue is available online, allowing students to search for books through our website. There are large desks for study, as well as individual study carrels with power points for laptops. The entire campus has a robust Wi-Fi network, along with printing and photocopying facilities for students. There are three networked photocopiers on campus, one color and two black & white, which can print, copy, scan, and collate.

The Worship Centre includes our uniquely shaped Chapel, where weekly devotions and school events are held, and a large teaching room which can also serve as an overflow space for the chapel. The kitchen, foyer, and toilet facilities make this a self-contained building suitable for various uses.

Our ‘Mustard Seed Cafe’ features a modern commercial kitchen and provides all the catering for lunches and school events. Many consider it the social heart of the school, where students and staff gather for lunch and breaks to chat and interact over home-cooked meals and cakes. Riverside House and Wellesley House are our two hostel blocks, accommodating up to 40 self-catering students on campus.

The “prayer walk,” with benches and seating, meanders along the riverbank and around the circumference of the campus, while the “prayer room” in Wellesley House offers a quiet space to focus on spiritual reflection in tranquility.
